The World of a musical genius
xity met Helmut Zerlett for an exclusive interview
A man that unifies them all - Helmut Zerlett is master of 4 professions: Keyboarder, composer, music producer and film composer.
Cologne - The 57 year old invited xity to an exclusive interview in his studio in Cologne and provided us with an insight into his creative thinking. He is well-known as a result of his role in the Harald-Schmidt Show or his improvised musical performances in the show "Frei Schnauze XXL". He showed his talent as a film actor as he played a minor role in the successful German comedy film "Sieben Zwerge - Männer allein im Wald" , which was directed by Otto Waalkes. However, his main passion is music and he started when he was very young, learning to play the organ at 5 years old. He followed up by learning various instruments such as the keyboard, synthesizer or the Rhodes piano. On his many trips abroad he finds new inspiration and new and unusual instruments which he can learn. His range of music is huge and is for any fan of music a joy.
Harald Zerlett is the musical director of the "Harald Schmidt Show" for more than 1800 episodes. He produced the film music for films such as "Die Mannschaft", "Die Vampireschwestern" and "Haus der Krokodile" as well as accompanying Marie-Müller Westhagen or the Beatsteaks on their tours.
Something very special about our visit at Hermut Zerlett´s studio was his warmth and his willingness to show us everything. He showed us around his home, played songs for us on several of his instruments and even showed us a snippet of his latest project. At the end we played some table football with him and admired his many achievements and prizes. These included a comedy prize for "Frei Schnauze XXL" and an original German World Cup football shirt signed by the players and a personal message from the German manager, Joachim Löw.
xity thanks for the interview.
