According to a media report Germany has refused entry to 5678 refugees since the beginning of the year at the border between Germany and Austria. The "Kleine Zeitung" reported that most of these refugees were from Afghanistan.

The report was based on the information provided by the Austrian home office. Refugees and migrants from north African countries were also strongly affected by the rebuttals as around 25% of refugees sent back were from these countries. There has been no information as to why certain refugees are being refused entry and sent back.

According to the report Austria has to tried to send the rejected refugees back to Slowenia and find temporary living arrangements for them there but has resulted in quite serious difficulties. The German government have repeatedly confirmed in the past that they have sent back refugees at the border. However it has said that the people being sent back are mostly people who do not want to claim for asylum in Germany.
