Straßburg - The European Court Rights in Straßburg will decide on a german mans preventive detention (an additonal sentence after his time in prison) after he had strangled a woman to death and then raped her in 1997 at the age of 19. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison after German law for teenagers. After his official sentence ended in 2008, he was then given a preventive detention as experts did not classify him safe for society. He then sued against this decision but was denied by German courts.

The now 40 year old has been in the Justizvollzugsanstalt Straubing since June 2013 where he is serving his preventive detention with psychological treatment. Now the Human Rights Court will decide on his future.
