Confirmed: 1.1 million refugees in 2015
Number of asylum applications reached record high
1.1 million refugees have come to Germany last year.
Berlin - This number comes from the asylum statistics for 2015 which the Federal Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière (CDU) in Berlin published. The number of asylum applications was significantly lower with just under 477,000. This is because it often takes a long time until a registered refugee can apply for asylum. The largest share among the applicants were from Syria.
Last year, the Interior Minister had initially predicted the total number of 800,000 refugees coming to Germany. Now it got confirmed that the number is 1.1 million by de Maizière,
From Syria came 428,000 people. The second highest proportion presented Afghanistan with 154,000, followed by Iraq with 122,000, 69,000 and Albania with Kosovo with 33,000.
There is a slight differend order in the 477,000 asylum applications results. From Syria nearly 163,000 applicants came, followed by Albania with almost 55,000 applicants. In third place Kosovo ended with 37,000, followed by Afghanistan with nearly 32,000 and Iraq with over 31,000. The total number was more than twice as high as in 2014, when 203,000 applications were registered. The statistics cover both primary as well as subsequent ones.
