Duisburg - With votings of parties SPD, Green and the Left, the council adopted a household renovation plan, in which the cooperation with the opera house Düsseldorf is aimed. However the own house should save up.

The "relationship" between those two operas consists since 1956. Duisburg is really high indebted, which let coucil question the location of the opera as well as the cooperation.

The parties SPD, Green and Left already agreed, on a budget counseling a week ago that cost-reasons are not going to make the cooperation fail. Also the CDU agreed on maintaining it.

Duisburg´s Opera is intended to save up millions of Euros

After the proposal of SPD, Green and Left, Duisburg shall remain the main location. The house,though, shall have funds effectively, from 2015 on, savings of around 1.45 million Euros.

The fractions suggest to raise the price of the tickets and to save money on the staff. The outsourcing of ballet is also encouraged. The responsibles shall open up new audience groups with actions to raise the share of immigrant culture.

This decision was appreciated by the Düsseldorf town hall. The state capital always has pointed out the willingness to continue its relationship with Duisburg beyond July 2014. However the city did not want to transfer more money to compensate the increase of personal costs since they have taken over this expenses in the last years already. This helped Duisburg´s Rheinoper to survive.

In this respect, and looking for an alternative, Düsseldorf has already contacted Cologne, as well as Bonn, should the marriage between Duisurg and Düsseldorf not be continued. That the Cologne opera chairman was fired last week, was caused by the dispute about the budget amount available.
